POLICY STATEMENT
Washtenaw Community College is committed to allowing students access to their educational records and to protect their rights to privacy by limiting the transfer of their records without their consent, according to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ). The college will also follow the FERPA guidelines that allow students to petition for corrections to inaccuracies in their records.
Policy Criteria
- The College may provide directory information to third parties in accordance with the act.
- Students may request that their directory information be withheld.
- Students who wish to review their records may submit a written request to the Registrar listing the item(s) of interest. The College will respond to the request within 30 days of the receipt.
- Educational records are defined as those College records that are accessible to staff but these records do not include ancillary notes in the sole possession of the maker and which are not revealed to any person except a substitute.
Outcomes
The College will work to ensure that student records are treated properly according to FERPA and will delegate the development of guidelines to the Student Services Division.
