Be a modern-day explorer and follow the Nile to its sources in Burundi and Rwanda in a geography class. Delve into history and witness the fall of the Roman Empire, the birth of the Renaissance, and titanic struggles of the Civil War. Immerse yourself in political science and discover how the Constitution guides our lives every day. Grapple with economics and begin to get a solid grounding in how immigration, outsourcing, and tax policy affect prosperity and determine individual winners and losers in our society. The Social Science Department is the place to discover your passion for learning and launch your journey to a bachelor’s degree and beyond.
Faculty Spotlight
Not all learning takes place inside a classroom. For the Summer 2017 semester, Chris and Ian lead a combined history and archeology trip to Britain. Students picked up credit for taking two classes and spent three weeks touring the castles, cathedrals, and Neolithic monuments before spending two weeks excavating for Roman artifacts at Vindolanda. The hard work paid off. Students found coins, grain scoops, and 25 Roman writing tablets, the largest cache discovered since 1992! Follow these links for more details and tons of photos.
