The initial interview will help us to determine the best fit for you. At the end of the interview, you will state your preference. If it is felt you are a good candidate for this program, you will be informed which employer you will complete your on-the-job training if appropriate after the two-week online class.
And of course, do your research! There are many avenues to help you understand working in private home care and assisted living communities including blogs, YouTube videos and several online forums.
No, there is no payment during the class. However, it does not cost you anything.
Yes, you’ll get paid on an hourly basis by the employer and possibly hired at that point.
You must complete the course training and the on the job training with the initial employer of choice. After that, a request can be made to transfer employers; however, depending on the need of all employers, this request may or may not be granted.
The program is a minimum of 4 weeks, which includes two weeks of class room training and a minimum of two weeks on-the-job training. However, since the on-the-job training is partially being paid for by MichiganWorks!, each applicant will have their own contract. As a result, there is some flexibility in how long the on-the-job training will be for each individual, but it must be full time (30 hours or greater).
You could potentially begin basic care for the people in the two week on-the-job training depending on comfort level, but all of the employer's primary goal is to have all candidates shadow for the intial two weeks. After that, you will start caring for people on your own, depending on your skills. Of course, you’ll be supported during the entirety of the training period.
