For the second straight year, a Washtenaw Community College student is the recipient of a Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship that awards bachelor’s degree-seeking students up to $40,000 annually for as many as three years.

Elizabeth Connors become program director of the WCC Surgical Technology program in 2016 and two years later launched a new certification program that prepares students for an occupation in central processing and sterilization of hospital instrumentation – which happens to be the first job Connors held in the healthcare industry.

Abbee Elwell has been taking college classes at Washtenaw Community College since she was a 14-year-old freshman at Washtenaw Technical Middle College. On Saturday, May 19, she delivered the student address at the WCC 2019 Commencement Ceremony and crossed the stage to receive the associate degree in General Studies in Math and Natural Sciences she earned with a 3.94 GPA.

Mia Guzman had a well-deserved, celebration-filled week in mid-May. It started with Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 12 and concluded with the 2019 WCC Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18. In between, her son Christian (pictured) turned 10 and she picked up her honors graduate certificate at the Spring Honors Convocation after completing an associate degree with a 3.7 GPA.
