Tom Penird
Tom (Tom Penird) is teaching part-time as an emeritus instructor for the Advanced Manufacturing Systems program at Washtenaw Community College. Tom retired from full-time teaching in the Advanced Manufacturing System department of Washtenaw Community College (WCC) after 30 years (1992 – 2022). Prior to WCC, Tom worked for Philips Display Components (Seneca Falls 1982-1988, Ann Arbor 1988-2005) in the R&D department, designing glass and metal components for the color picture tube industries. Tom enjoys a good challenge, having worked with organizations such as Square One IVD teams (Innovative vehicle design), First Robotics, Baja and Formula teams at U of M Wilson Center, Milan Middle / High Theater programs, and more. Tom is also a co-owner of a small CNC manufacturing company (2013-Current), keeping him busy in his spare moments. In recent years Tom has been actively involved in the design and build challenges within the Theater departments at Milan Schools. This allows him time to spend with his three grandchildren and gives him the captive audience for his “DAD” jokes and “PUNS”. Tom knows the most important part of set design is the interaction with our youth. It is truly amazing seeing the growth in abilities of our awesome young entrepreneurs. Their creativity, drive for a common goal, and enthusiasm is what inspires me to look forward to the next show!
